The 9U Encompass Expos took second place in the CIS Kickoff Classic in Des Moines, Iowa over the weekend of April 9-10, and took home their first rings as well!

The Expos opened up pool play on Saturday with a 14-10 win over Nevers Larkin-Robins (Edina MN). Easton Eckenberg had two hits and two runs scored and Sam Lisi had two hits and two RBIs as the 9s hung on for a five-inning win. In game two against Indianola (IA), the Expos put up a seven run fourth inning to pull away on three hits in a row by Lisi, Mason Luense, and Anders Oleksa. Congratulations to Sam Lisi on hitting his first ever over-the-fence homerun in the second inning and for going 3-3 in the second game to lead the Expos with five hits on the day. Marco Gentillini picked up the win on the mound with a clean first inning while Eckenberg threw well in relief going 1 and 2/3 innings out of the pen.

Sunday's last game of pool play saw the Expos win again, this time 16-0 over Nevers Larkin-Satzinger (Edina MN). Berrisford hit two doubles and had three RBIs and Gentillini also hit two doubles and had two RBIs. Oleska pitched three innings, striking out five and Levi Pearce came in to pitch the final inning, combining with Oleska on the no-hit shutout. The Expos finished pool play 3-0 and were the second seed as bracket play began.

In the semifinal game, the Expos found themselves once again facing Nevers Larkin-Robins and once again coming away with a 14-10 win. Luense started the game for the Expos, going three innings and striking out seven. Berrisford and Gentillini each had two hits and a double each and Gio Pessenda also doubled for the Expos.

In the championship game against the MASH (Eagan MN) the Expos faced some great pitching and lost 12-4. Weston Burkhart hit a double for the Expos, who were limited to only two hits in the contest. Berrisford pitched 3 2/3 innings and struck out six.

The 9U Expos went 4-1 on the weekend and we look forward to more amazing things to come from this squad! Next up is a swing weekend in Farmington, MN on April 23-24.
